Hank Grum has nearly half the signatures he needs to put his initiative petition on the ballot but, with the deadline for the May election behind him, he’s now aiming for the November general election.
Here is the prospective petition that would allow a vote of the people of Newberg, OR for any tax, fee or other charge increase passed by the city council. The proposal requires just five voters to ask for any charge, etc. to be voted on but also requires a double majority of voters to approve the measure: over 50% turnout and over 50% in favor.
It is scheduled for a March 8, 2011, Special Election.
